Subject: Indefinite suspension with no valid reason
To whom it may concern,
Having the right to protect my basic human rights as a worker and ask for a
respect, fair & honest treatment on the investigation of the said incident, I send
your office this letter for proper legal documentation on the issue.
My name is Hipolito "MEI"" M. Belarmino, an employee of UT in Packaging Department
for the last 13 years.
Presently,I am a Packager II, a certified safe and conscientious forklift driver and
riderjack operator during all production runs this is based on their review on my
work appraisal two years in a row.
Although I almost consistently meets their expectation I never get any increase on
my wages since the union voted in last two years and a half.
Everybody knows that I have a strong support to have a union in the workplace.
The objective of this letter is to give way to the truth that I believed in what
exactly what happened about the incident that took place between me and Alex
Alcarion (Machine Operator) that day of Monday 17,2008.
Importantly to clean up my name on a false accusation against me.
Last week on Wednesday March 19, 2008 (10 days after the incident) Michael Connors
(Packaging Department) & Lamont Monroe (Human Resources Senior Officer) called me
in a private meeting me that " I am trying to brush him(Alex A.) with my forklift!"
and giving the question " Are you a marine?" this is based on the report of Alex
Alacarion to them.
For almost more or less an hour of questioning me & both(Michael & Lamont)
squeezing me " If I recall if I had an encounter or argument that day with Alex
Alcarion?" adding to this that David Corrales will witness the true-incident & plus
a lot of people will testify against me,Lamont said.
Again based on my experience to them they will not searching for the truth.
They are setting you up a trap to play their dirty tricks. Instead they want you to
speak out that there was really happened that day and any word that you uttered
will go against me.Especially if you don't have the right choice of words.
Take note that English is not my native tongue. And I know he is taking advantage of
this.
So I prefer not to give them anything. Rather I kept both telling them repeatedly
"I don't know what they are talking about! It is not that I don't remember my
experience that day, It is because there are no connection between the two phrases.
And Lamont added that Alex questioned me in tagalog "Ano ba ang problema mo?"(What
is your problem?) which I never heard.
They should realized that Alex Alcarion supposedly working on a different machine,
on a different place and a different time. Why is he on my working area?
The truth is he is trying to chase me, intimidate & harassing me.To his surprised I
worked 2nd shift that day. And that makes him upset and uttered the tagalog words
"Kaya mo pa ba?"(Can you still keep up?") and "bakla, bakla,
bakla!"("Bakla...bakla..bakla!") and he always does this if nobody is around and
no one can see us.
And he even try to bump me on my shoulder while I am standing on the isle and
monitoring system 1 & 2 and giving me a dirty look.
This time I see to it that I'll be visible to others!
And while I am driving the forklift, He comes to me & leans on the railing on the
operator's computer tries to intimidate and uttering a lot of tagalog words. This
time I got off from my forklift and try to shook his hands but he refused.( I hope
the camera is working!)
While David & Me having a conversation before he come up to the control room and
reported me to Andy Smith taking advantage of the situation,Here I know for sure
that Andy with his conscience disagree with his false accusation because they
should call me right away if I am really had an uncontrollable behaviour and very
unsafe to my co-worker he blocked his cart in front of my forklift it is good I am
on stop.
This time also I am trying to talked to David that I hope he is always beside me
for Alex is harassing me. But when Alex is approaching us, David tries to run away
and afraid not to be involved.
And when David & me talking to Secondary Delivery of system 1 he again approach us
and whisper to David which I don't know what he said.(Again I hope the camera is
working!).
And before I went home that night I get my jacket on the railing on system 3 and
again throwing the tagalog words "Bakla...bakla..bakla!"("Gay...Gay...Gay!")(Again
I hope the camera is working!)
I really don't know that he was working on system 3!
And then I saw Steve O. with his co worker on B Press and said goodnight!

Wow!, sounds like a pretty hostile environment there Mei. It's unfortunate. I felt that, at least for a while, we were able to create if not an enjoyable workplace at least a tolerable one. Unfortunately there were still some in management that preferred to see employees as numbers or $ instead of human beings which in the end led to a less than team oriented atmosphere. It's too bad because it didn't really have to degenerate into that.
Unfortunately it will probably only get worse as the newspaper industry is a dying industry. As circulation falls cost cutting pressure will continue to build which will create even more tension in the workplace.
I will have my girlfriend translate some of your other blog posts for me as my Tagalog is not too good. Although I did go to the Philippines a while back. I enjoyed it and would like to go back again sometime soon. I put a picture in my profile.
Say hello to everyone for me.
Jeff
